The Omohundro Institute is seeking an Editor of Books to superintend its books program, including acquisitions, manuscript development, and oversight of manuscript editing.

The Omohundro Institute’s books program, in partnership with the University of North Carolina Press, aims to publish the highest-quality long-form scholarship on early America, broadly conceived. The OI has published award-winning scholarship for more than seventy years. With an experienced team of acquisitions and manuscript editors as well as an editorial apprenticeship program for William & Mary graduate students, the OI is committed to intensive and collaborative editing.

The successful candidate should have significant editorial experience and a familiarity with early American scholarship or a demonstrated aptitude for both. A graduate degree in history or a related field is preferable.

Founded in 1943, the Omohundro Institute is a nonprofit research institute located on the campus of its founding sponsor, the College of William & Mary. Focused on enhancing opportunities for scholars and scholarship in traditional and innovative forums, the OI hosts conferences and sponsors fellowships nationally and internationally. In addition to books, its publication programs include a flagship journal, the William and Mary Quarterly, and a digital platform, the OI Reader (available on iTunes and Google Play).
